Calendar Chinese. In china, the gregorian calendar is called “standard” (公曆 gōnglì), “western” (西 曆 xīlì), or “solar” (日曆 rìlì). The lunar calendar is based on moon cycles, so the dates of the lunar new year celebration changes slightly each year.

In 2025, chinese new year begins on january 29th and ends on february 12th with the lantern festival. The traditional chinese calendar is a lunisolar calendar based on astronomical observations of the sun’s longitude and the moon’s phases.
